Living with a host family and attending a local school in the Netherlands will allow you to meet new people and discover this open and tolerant country.
Dutch schools, among the best in the world, will offer you an excellent academic challenge.
Participants must be between 15 years and 3 months and 17 years and 9 months old on the day of departure.
Go on a trip for a year, a semester, or a trimester and attend a high school in your host community. You'll live with a family selected by AFS for an unforgettable immersion experience.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay, and you'll meet young people from all over the world!
The Dutch school system offers several levels, initially chosen by your host family, but adjustable if necessary.
Subjects include Dutch, English, a third language (French or German), science, history, social studies, math, and sports. There are approximately 700 secondary schools, both public and private. Classes take place over five days, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
The Netherlands has a population of 17 million and speaks Dutch, a Germanic language.
A flat country with short distances, the Dutch travel 10 to 15 km per day by bicycle. You can borrow or buy a bike, as it's common to cycle to school.
