Attending a local school and living with a host family in Sweden will give you the perfect opportunity to learn the language, make new friends, and broaden your horizons. You'll be fully immersed in Swedish society and experience life like a Swedish teenager, in a completely different environment than you're used to. Get ready for a different and unique adventure!
Admission requirements
Participants must be between 15.8 and 18 years old on the day of departure.
The AFS program
You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
General information
Swedish is a North Germanic language, closely related to Danish, Norwegian, and Icelandic. Family life is very important, and children are given responsibility, helping with household chores, and so on.
The school system
Some schools require students to have already begun Swedish before being accepted. Most (but not all) schools offer basic Swedish classes, a few hours per week during the first semester.
