The Philippines is the third-largest English-speaking country in the world. The archipelago has a rich history combining Asian, European, and American influences. Many Filipinos celebrate traditional festivals known as neighborhood festivals (district festivals) to commemorate the feast days of patron saints.
Participants must be between 14.6 and 18 years old on the day of departure.
Go on a year, semester, or term and study at a high school in your host community. You'll live with a family selected by AFS for an unforgettable immersion experience.
AFS offers training and activities before, during, and after your stay, and you'll meet young people from all over the world!
Classes are held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Subjects include English, math (geometry, algebra, trigonometry), science, languages (Filipino, Makabayan), technology, civics, music, arts, sports, and health.
Five compulsory subjects are taught in 40-minute sessions. Some schools also offer journalism, botany, zoology, and scientific research. Uniforms are mandatory.
In the Philippines, the official languages are Filipino and English, but education is conducted exclusively in English.
The families are very close-knit and traditional, placing the family at the center of life. Religious diversity is widely respected.
AFS helps people of all ages and backgrounds develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to connect with diverse people, succeed in a global environment, and contribute to a positive impact on the world.
