Living with a host family and attending a local school in Peru will give you the opportunity to experience this ancient and diverse culture, from the modern metropolis of Lima to the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu… At school, you will meet new people and learn many new things.
Participants must be between 15 and 17.3 years old on the day of departure.
You’ll spend a year, semester, or trimester attending high school in your host community. A carefully chosen AFS host family will welcome you for a memorable, immersive experience.
AFS provides training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You’ll connect with young people from around the world.
AFS students in Peru are usually placed in 8th or 9th grade. The school year runs from April to December, with a 15-day summer break. Classes take place Monday through Friday.
Students stay with the same classmates and follow a fixed schedule all year. Subjects include Spanish literature, math, English, Peruvian history, economics, citizenship, arts, crafts, social sciences, chemistry, and physics.
