In Hungary, you’ll deeply explore this proud Eastern European nation by living with a host family and attending a local school.
You’ll immerse yourself in Hungarian language and culture, discovering the country as a true community member—not just a tourist!
Admission requirements
Participants must be between 15.6 and 18.6 years old on the day of departure.
The AFS program
Spend a year, semester, or trimester abroad, attending high school in your host community. You’ll live with an AFS-selected family for an unforgettable immersion.
AFS provides training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay, helping you connect with young people worldwide.
The school system
Most Hungarian schools start in late August, with terms running until January 31st and mid-June. Classes last 45 minutes, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, with breaks in between.
Lessons are taught in Hungarian, a challenging language, but AFS offers three months of language courses. Joining sports or cultural clubs helps you make friends and settle into your new life.
