Sometimes called the "Pearl of the Orient," Hong Kong may seem ultra-modern, but it's still firmly rooted in tradition. By living with a local host family and attending secondary school, you'll be fully immersed in Hong Kong's unique culture. Prepare for an experience like no other!
Participants must be between 15 and 16.5 years old on the day of departure.
Spend a year, semester, or trimester abroad, attending high school in your host community. You’ll stay with an AFS-selected family for an unforgettable immersion.
AFS provides training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay, connecting you with young people from around the world.
The school year in Hong Kong runs from September to early June. AFS offers free Cantonese classes (2 hours/week for one month).
English is widely spoken, but Cantonese remains essential, as most schools use it. It is possible to choose a school that teaches Cantonese or English, but there's no guarantee. Numerous clubs are available: tennis, drama, debate, etc.
