Ghana is the perfect place to explore fruit and vegetable markets, enjoy fried plantains seasoned with chili and ginger, and stroll through streets where life never stops. Women wear colorful West African clothing, and people play checkers in cafes. All of this demonstrates the diversity of Ghana's people.
Admission requirements
Participants must be between 15 and 18 years old on the day of departure.
The AFS program
You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
The school system
The school year begins in September and ends in July. There are breaks at Christmas and in the spring. Classes begin at 7:00 a.m. and last 45 minutes. The courses offered vary: arts, sciences, agriculture, economics, and business. General courses include English, mathematics, physical science, and politics.
In most schools, teachers rotate classes. All classes are taught in English. School uniforms are mandatory in all schools, both private and public. AFS Ghana covers the cost of uniforms, books, and school supplies. After school, students participate in sports, drama, debate clubs, choir, or play an instrument in an orchestra, etc.
