Germany has a youthful, active culture and offers a wide range of activities. Young Germans typically devote their weekdays to studying and reserve community activities, sports, and socializing for the weekend. Popular sports include soccer, walking, and cycling.

The AFS program
You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
The school system
The organization of the school system is specific to each province, which explains significant differences depending on where you study. What all German schools share is the high standards required of students to ensure good academic results. German schools offer very few extracurricular activities, aside from the traditional class trip. Everyone organizes their afternoons in their own way. In Germany, students attend school Monday through Friday, and sometimes Saturday depending on the region. Most classes are held in the morning, meaning students are generally home by early afternoon.
The subjects taught are: German, English, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, history, social sciences, art, music, geography, and sports. The number of class hours per week ranges between 30 and 36.
Each student organizes their afternoon by participating in sports activities, socializing with friends, participating in discussion workshops, or attending a music school. This will also allow you to make new friends. Some schools offer a school trip that you can participate in at your own expense.
