You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
Most students in Denmark attend public schools, where they are placed in classes according to their age. Subjects include Danish, English, history, math, science, foreign languages, and drama, with the number of students varying depending on the school. There are three sections: general, business, and technical.
The school year runs from mid-August to early July, with vacations in October, December, and February. Classes are held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., leaving the afternoons free for extracurricular activities. The Danish system values debate and an informal but respectful relationship between students and teachers, requiring maturity and autonomy.
Young people can attend Danish classes after school, depending on the host community. AFS participants are enrolled in either a folk school or a gymnasium, depending on their age. A good language level promotes progress in English and German. Many schools offer extracurricular activities.
AFS helps people of all ages and backgrounds develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to connect with diverse people, succeed in a global environment, and contribute to a positive impact on the world.
