Seize the opportunity to continue your studies in China, one of the friendliest, grandest, and most inspiring countries. You'll discover a mosaic of the traditional and the modern: centuries-old temples surrounded by skyscrapers, street food alongside imperial palaces, and new architecture alongside ancient pagodas.
Admission requirements
Participants must be between 15 and 17.6 years old on the day of departure.
The AFS program
You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
The school system
School starts in early September and ends in early June. Classes are taught in Mandarin (the primary dialect in China), take place between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. and end between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Music clubs, sports clubs, etc. start at 4:00 p.m.
Schools in China offer free Chinese lessons for the first three months. Instruction is in Mandarin. School uniforms are mandatory. Students in their final year of high school are accepted, but it is important to know that school registration in China is still done in the 9th or 10th grade (3rd or 2nd grade) regardless of age.
