The AFS program

You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.

AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.

The school system

The course curriculum includes 10 compulsory subjects, such as Chilean history and geography, economics, science, mathematics, and a foreign language. Art and music are optional. You will take all these courses with the same group and likely in the same class; the students in this group may have known each other for several years.

The Chilean school year begins in late February or early March and ends in early December. Classes are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. A school uniform is mandatory and is the student's responsibility. Lunch breaks are generally one hour long, with a ten-minute break between classes.

The education system in Chile is one of the best in Latin America.
