With its delicious food, diverse population, and world-famous festivals, Brazil is an ideal place to immerse yourself in a new culture. By living with a host family and attending a local high school, you’ll learn the ins and outs of Brazilian daily life. This is your chance to step outside your comfort zone and rewrite your high school experience. Why not spend a year or semester swaying your hips to the Samba, enjoying churrasco (Brazilian barbeque), and forming lifelong bonds with family and friends?
Participants must be between 15 and 18.6 years old on the day of departure.
You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.
The school year in Brazil lasts 200 days. School usually begins the first week of February and ends the first week of December (summer in Brazil). There are three weeks of vacation in the winter (July). In northern Brazil, schools begin the first week of September and end in June. Uniforms are mandatory and are the student's responsibility. Classes generally take place either in the morning from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. or in the afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Outside of classes, many high school students enroll in private institutes of languages, art, music, dance, and other subjects. If capoeira and samba tempt you, don't hesitate; Brazil will seduce you!
AFS helps people of all ages and backgrounds develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to connect with diverse people, succeed in a global environment, and contribute to a positive impact on the world.
