The AFS program

You'll be leaving for a year, a semester, or even a trimester. You'll attend high school in the community where you'll be living. You'll have the opportunity to be hosted by a family carefully selected by AFS so you can enjoy an immersive stay that will leave you with unforgettable memories.

AFS offers training, orientation, and activities before, during, and after your stay. You'll meet young people from all over the world.

The school system

The school year begins the first week of February and ends mid-November (varies by region). There are 15 days of winter vacation in June/July, and summer vacation runs from the end of the year until February. Classes are Monday to Friday (sometimes also Saturday) from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Schools require students to choose 12 or 14 subjects: mathematics, physics, natural sciences, literature, art, religion, computer science, chemistry, social sciences, philosophy, foreign languages, physical education, and music. Class changes are performed by teachers. School uniforms are mandatory (purchased upon arrival). A uniform is also required for physical activities.
