AFS Global You™ Adventurer Program

A five-week interactive virtual exchange program for adolescents aged 14 to 17 from around the world to develop essential 21st-century global skills and build bridges between cultures.

This is a unique virtual program that will allow you to improve your intercultural communication skills and be part of a truly global community.

In addition to having fun, you’ll learn from AFS’s intercultural learning experts, who have over 70 years of experience managing exchange and other educational programs in over 60 countries.

IN THIS ONLINE PROGRAM, YOU WILL EXPLORE:

  • How you can advocate for issues you truly care about and help make the world a better place.

  • How to be part of a global community of passionate people who want to make a difference.

  • What makes cultural differences important and beautiful.

  • Why we all need to develop our empathy muscles.

  • How to avoid jumping to conclusions.

  • What to do about the inequalities you encounter around you.

  • And much more!

Upon completion, you will receive the Global Competence Certificate issued by AFS, recognizing your new global skills.

FAQ

The program includes 20 different, self-paced modules that take approximately 16 hours to complete over 5 weeks. You’ll also participate in four online dialogue sessions where you’ll connect with other participants in your cohort, as well as a trained AFS facilitator, to reflect on the content, exchange ideas, and participate in group discussions, all while developing your global skills.

Global You programs are flexible and designed to fit into busy schedules. You can expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week in the program. Once you’re enrolled, we’ll ask you to indicate your availability to ensure the schedule is optimal for you and your fellow participants.

The next cohorts of the Global You Adventurer program will take place:

  • From May 3 to June 7, 2022
  • From June 7 to July 12, 2022
  • From July 12 to August 16, 2022
  • From August 2 to September 6, 2022
  • From September 13 to October 18, 2022
  • From October 4 to November 8, 2022
  • From November 1 to December 6, 2022
  • From December 13 to January 24, 2023 (including holidays)

In addition to your curiosity and a willingness to meet new people, you will need:

  • A computer, smartphone, or other digital device to access the program content and forum.
  • A webcam and microphone to participate in live online sessions.
  • A stable internet connection (Wi-Fi).

Most sessions are held in English* (with videos subtitled in English and Spanish), and live sessions are hosted in English. We recommend that you have sufficient English proficiency to be able to:

  • Read written content
  • Comment in forums
  • Understand live sessions

Are you afraid to express yourself in English? Don’t worry!

This course is attended by people from all over the world, so most students have varying levels of English. Everyone is welcome! This is also an opportunity for you to practice and improve your language skills.

*Spanish program – July 6 to August 10 / Spanish session available starting July 6, 2021. All live Zoom sessions will be held in Spanish. The video modules are in English with Spanish subtitles.

Yes! Earn your AFS Global Competency Certificate and become an active global citizen.

The Global You program will help you acquire valuable global skills that will set you apart and prepare you for your future paths: in college, in your career, and in life.

Participation in the AFS Global You Adventurer program requires a one-time payment of USD 315.

Tuition includes:

  • Membership in a personalized international group of up to 25 other people from around the world.
  • 16 hours of fun and learning with the award-winning, research-backed AFS Global Competence Certificate.
  • 20 interactive online modules (with video instructions subtitled in English and Spanish).
  • A closed online forum to connect and share with youth from around the world.
  • Interactive quizzes and assignments to help you reflect and learn.
  • 4 online dialogue sessions led by qualified and specially trained AFS facilitators.
  • Your own AFS Global Competence Certificate upon program completion.
  • Access to the global network of AFS alumni and volunteers, active in over 60 countries worldwide.

Yes! Thanks to our generous donors, we have a few partial scholarships available for the AFS Global You Adventurer program. To apply, you will need to explain how your community could be improved by embracing the power of diversity. If your application is successful, you will receive a USD $200 discount on the AFS Global You Adventurer program tuition. To enroll and receive the scholarship, you must pay a USD $115 tuition contribution.

Please note that partial scholarship funds are not guaranteed. Scholarship amounts are based on available funds at the time of application.
