A second camp is planned in your future host country. Depending on the country, it may take place either on arrival of the participants, who will go directly from the airport or station, or a few weeks later. These camps (1 to 2 days) are designed to introduce you to the customs and rules of the country in which you have just arrived.

Orientation for arrival abroad
Arrival in the host family
AFS will arrange the transfer to the host family’s place of residence from the airport, train station or camp site. In some cases, it is the families themselves who will come to pick you up.
Back to school start
Depending on the country, the school year begins a few days after arrival or only
a few weeks later after your arrival. Integration into the school community is an important part of our programs, so special school attendance is expected of you.
Contact person
It is during the orientation camp that you will get to know your contact person. It is to her that you will be able to ask all your questions and concerns. In difficult times, she will be able to help you and provide you with the necessary advice. Also, a 24-hour emergency line is available for you and your parents.
Evaluation camp abroad
It is not uncommon for an assessment camp to be organized by AFS partner countries on site at the end of your stay. Another opportunity for you to see your international friends again, share your fondest memories and prepare for your return to Canada.
The return
